Special Episode - Karen Broadhead Part 2: Keep Loving Them

Those boys are just like me.
— Karen's son
Mom, I am not a pathetic loser...I am not my own worst enemy...I have an enemy and he is scared of me because I’m awesome.
— Karen's son

Karen truly is a remarkable mother that has learned some valuable lessons that we can learn from and see our own failings and happily move forward to do a better job at parenting with LOVE and understanding rather than shame and contention.

I love the way Karen puts some of these difficult situations into a simple form of understanding that we are all children of God trying to learn how to navigate life amid darkening challenges.  We are not pathetic losers, we are amazing.  The opposition would tell us otherwise, and we need not listen to the twisting of truth - hang on strong to what God tells us - we are His children.  He loves us.  He is cheering us on.

It gave him someone to fight instead of himself.
— Karen Broadhead

wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to not have dark corners and have it hidden for years and years and get that deep and that hard and that shameful.
— Karen Broadhead
[It’s like the Savior was telling me] “you have to give your son up...give him up. Because you are trying to do my job, but it’s my work, it’s my glory. I want to save your son just as badly as you do. There’s a purpose behind all of this for you and for him...but I need you to get out of the way so that I can do my work.”

I really couldn’t do it on my own. I’d tried everything I could think of.

Jed Anderson, CMHC

If you would like to connect with Jed or one of the counselors that work with him, visit his website at: ldshopeandrecovery.com

Relying fully on God’s grace and the Atonement...I wouldn’t give up that experience for anything.
I don’t think Satan has come up with a counterfeit yet for peace and serenity...the only thing he’s got maybe is ‘numb’

Brett Walker - Arise! Breaking Free from Life's Shadows and Facing the Son

How would your life be different if you stopped looking at the shadows life casts on the ground, turned and looked to the sky and saw clearly the light of the Son?  When we look to the light of our Savior, and feel His love warming us, we don't see the shadows that fall behind us.

Where would you stand relative to someone if you were the savior?

Brett Walker has served for many years as a service missionary in the LDS PASAG program, and has gained clear insights over the years of how to win against an addiction to pornography.  He shares in this episode some of the benefits he has seen in attending and participating in a 12 step meeting.  Even though that first meeting may be a challenge to go, and then to open your car door and walk in, it will be worth the effort.

In his recently published book, Arise! Breaking Free from Life's Shadows and Facing the Son, Brett tells the story of a man caught in his addiction and the journey he walks to make a real change for the better in life.  I read the free excerpt download available here, and I immediately bought the book so I can read the rest.

We can never go so far from the savior that he wouldn’t be a light for us and bring us out of that darkness.

Let Go, and Trust God

Let Go, and Trust God

It's like you're hanging on the edge of a cliff, and God says, "Trust me let go, let go and trust me."  And you're like, "I can't let go because if I let go, this and this and this is going to happen!"  And He keeps on saying, "No. [something better] is going to happen."  But you think you see the ground 2,000 ft down, and you don't want to let go because you think you know the outcome of letting go.  It's difficult for me to define, it just means completely trusting God.  Letting go.  Let Him take over and show you what He can do.
