It's like you're hanging on the edge of a cliff, and God says, "Trust me let go, let go and trust me." And you're like, "I can't let go because if I let go, this and this and this is going to happen!" And He keeps on saying, "No. [something better] is going to happen." But you think you see the ground 2,000 ft down, and you don't want to let go because you think you know the outcome of letting go. It's difficult for me to define, it just means completely trusting God. Letting go. Let Him take over and show you what He can do.
In this episode, Sean and I discuss a common misconception that we face with challenges in life that hurt like addiction. Our human response to pain is that we want it to stop and go away. In addiction and in recovery from addiction we experience pain, and over and over we've said it ourselves and heard others lament "I just want this to go away."
When struggling to overcome an addiction, you need the right tools. If you go it alone, sooner or later you'll find yourself sliding out of control down a slippery slope unable to stop. Here's one quick tip that you'll find common in almost all recovery programs I've learned from.
Matt Soren is the front man for the principle based rock band The One Tonic. He performs for private events, addiction rehabs, and only the most fortunate organizations. Having suffered from the consequences of 20 years of addiction and abuse as a child, he now shares the key principles to make sure life only keeps getting better, no matter what you get hit with. He's now happily married with 6 kids though according to them, he's still a few fries short of a happy meal.
I'm happy to begin this new podcast. I know it's a very vulnerable place for many people, but I think people both with addictions or with loved ones that have addictions can greatly benefit from hearing heartfelt honest communication between recovering addicts. My great hope is that it will encourage anyone, addict or not to be vulnerable, to open up to someone they can trust and have some honest heart-to-heart conversations that will bless the both of you. Not only that but then go out and help others as well.
